Robert E. McKinley

Robert E. McKinley, age 84, passed away on September 27, 2015. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force until he retired in 1970. He then worked for Albuquerque Public schools until 1993 when he retired for the second time. Robert was an avid sports fan who enjoyed football and bowling and he especially liked the UNM Lobos. Dad bowled into his 80’s and won several awards at the Senior Olympic Games and the Senior World Games. Robert was a wonderful husband and father, full of wisdom and down to earth “Common Sense”. He was a thoughtful, generous man and was a shining example of integrity to his family and friends. His wit and humor will be missed daily. He was loved and will be missed by everyone who knew him. The void he leaves in the lives of his family cannot be filled. Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Victoria McKinley. He is survived by his four children, Geneva (Victor), Lauretta (John), Roberta (Martin), Bill (Karen); 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. After the death of his wife, Robert was fortunate enough to meet Mary Gilliland, a wonderful lady that matched his generosity, integrity and most of all, his humor. Their friendship grew and was a blessing to Robert and his family. Dad found great peace in life through his faith and knowing his Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. Robert's family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all relatives and friends who loved him and supported him throughout his life. Your kindness will always be remembered. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson Foundation in his honor at Parkinson.org. Friends may visit Friday, October 2, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. followed by the Rosary at FRENCH - Lomas. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated Saturday, October 3, 2015, 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont Street NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Reception will follow the Mass at St. Magdalene Hall across the street from the church. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 11:00 a.m. at Wyoming and Paseo del Norte.
